Snoopy & Lucy go to the SC Fair

 Today was the final day of the SC state fair and we decided to make a girls date out of it. The hubbs was suppose to go as well but with a busy up coming week in the field I have him a pass. lol We had so much fun, road lots of rids, had loads of laughs and enjoyed a yummy corn dog. The fair any were makes for some great people watching and the SC did not disappoint there. Kelly and I hadn't had a girls trip out in a few weeks aside from our runs and so it was great to get out and have some fun. It was much needed after a long weekend. As we were headed to get our yummy corn dog we ran in to one of my other favorite families in the South. I was so excited to see this little Red Head and Lucy was to. They are the best of buds!!! Today was my first full experience of the SC state fair since we've been here over the past two years. I've always loved going, of course the food is my favorite part. We'll def. be going back again next year if we are still here in the south.

Just Another Typical Texas Day

I spent last night with the W girls again (some of our Hawaii Ohana). I’ve really enjoyed getting to hang out with them over the last week and meet lil baby A. She’s such a doll and so sweet!! We spent the evening making cake pops and apple pie in a jar. The pie turned out fabulous, I’m definitely going to try recreating them here soon. Our cake pops turned out cute as well. Over the moon time consuming and tedious but it was fun. I’ve said it once before when the Spouse & I made cake pops last year, but I really don’t think I’ll do it again. Its just so much work and frankly I don’t have the patience for it.  

We had big plans for today, the Texas State Fair. Its like a tradition if your in Texas when its going on. It’s almost a sin if you don’t go. Ok well its not, but still its a must. From all the yummy fried, totally unhealthy foods. To the sweet treats and giant turkey legs there’s something there to please everyones taste buds. I go for the food and to have a good time. I’m not really into riding the rides. Well minus the Texas Star Ferris wheel, that’s a must. It was Vic & Gigi’s first time to the fair, I was glad to show them around. We checked out a few rides, ate some yummy food and did a little window shopping before calling it a day.

Gigi was most excited to meet “Big Tex”, he celebrated his 60th birthday this year. He’s always been the talk of the town and everyone knows who he is. Your not a true Texan if you don’t know who “Big Tex” is. He Stands tall 52 feet tall wearing size 70 boots, a 75-gallon hat, and a 50 pound belt buckle.

The Texas Star

It was a sad day at the fair shortly after we visited. There was a electrical short some were in the base of the structure, (he talks) and is now having to be rebuilt. Hopefully they will have him repaired by this time next year for opening day of them fair. He hasn’t missed a fair in 60 years. Although they say its going take up to a year to fully repair him. Fingers crossed!!!

That evening I had dinner with my Mom and Mamaw. Its always nice getting to spend time with them. I miss out on so much since I live so far away. Later that evening I took my first belly dancing class with my Aunt Holly & Cousin Shae, it was a experience all in its self. The excitement didn’t end there either, I shortly realized after getting back to my mamaws house that I locked my keys in the trunk of my rental car. Cue in melt down moment about to start. Thankfully my mom knew someone in the area that was able to come over and unlock the door. Surprisingly it was super simple, although you need a few special tools, I now know how to break in to a car. lol Not that I would, I mean unless I lock my keys in my car. Thankfully though my car will not lock with the keys inside, thanks to technology. After that crisis was diverted, I headed back to Ang’s were I was staying and called it a night. It was a busy long day and I had another one ahead of me. 

Texas State Fair

You just can’t go to Texas and not go to the State Fair, it would be a sin. (ok not really but maybe eating all that junk food was) We just so happen to be in town when the 125th annual state fair was going on. Well before we had exact dates on when we were gonna be in Texas I made plans with my beautiful friend Kari ~ double date to the FAIR.
The plan was to meet up and take the TRE to downtown Dallas. Rather than having to deal with parking and driving back late or in Dallas traffic we opted to go this route.



Wednesday morning we met and headed to the train station to board the Trinity Railway Express. It was my 2nd time riding the TRE and Gabe’s first to ever be on a train like this before. It’s so fun doing new things together with him, this was also our first time to be going to a state fair together. Going on almost 4 years of marriage 5 years of being together NEX T MONTH and there are still so many “FIRST’S” between the two of us. Thanks to the Army ways and there wonderful not so wonderful deployments.


We tried many different yummy foods, some fried and some not. We walked around and looked at all the different arts & craft exhibits as well as the boat load of different cars they had one display. I’m pretty sure that had to be Gabe’s favorite part about the whole afternoon, we all know how he is about the his cars. Not to mention the smelly animals they had pigs, sheep, cats, dogs, rabbits, chicks and the largest hog I had ever seen.





Kari and I took place in a TV interview that they were doing at the BEER around the World station. I tried the Deep Fried Salsa & Kari tried the Deep Fried Pop-tart, we answered questions about how it tasted and the texture of it and all that good stuff. I was pretty nervous but they seemed to like what I had to say and enjoyed chatting with me. The footage is going to be used for the Travel Channel Fair Food around the World Episode.




We left the fair full from all that crazy food we ate but we had a great time. It was nice to because going on a week day there wasn’t thousands of people you were trying to walk through and we didn’t have to deal with a bunch of lovely children.

Oklahoma State Fair

After the Memorial we made our way further downtown to the OK State fair. I haven’t been to a fair in two years last time was when I was in Texas visiting family back in ’09. I was super stoked about going, chowing down on loads of fried food & riding the rides. We got there and let me tell you it was packed, I guess since it was the last weekend it was open everyone was taking full advantage and going. We lucked out with parking and got a great spot, quickly getting our tickets and making our way through the gates.
Food stands EVERY were.......were do we start we asked each other. Lets go with the rides first then eat then more rides. We finally got down to the area were the rides were and stood in line for what seemed like forever just to get tickets. With the fair grounds being PACKED we decided if we wanted to ride more than one ride in less than a hour we were going to have to splurge and purchase the unlimited VIP pass (which allows you to skip the entire line and go right to the front). I was a little hesitant about it because it was $40, I know its not a lot but really to ride some carnival / fair like rides it was. However once we got our passes and made our way to the FRONT of the line I was sold. The lines were insanely long there is no way we would have been able to ride half the stuff we did if it wasn’t for getting the VIP pass.




We enjoyed the night going from ride to ride right to the front of the line on each one. It was a blast, I love fairs and I don’t really remember going a lot as a kid so I’m totally making up for lost time now.
We took a break from all the fun to grab some yummy fair food dinner and found a quite area to sit down and chat. Alana and I split a turkey leg one of my all time favorites and Misty had herself a corn dog.



Once we were down we made our way through a few more rides. I sat out on the spiny ones because they make me sicker than a dog. I was able to get on two that I did just fine on and loved. The more intense ones though I opted out of. We road the ferris wheel which gave you a great view of the entire fair grounds. When we were on the ski lift we got to see what looked to be a giant fight down below, it was a bit creepy at first because we looked down and people were running EVERY WERE. It was almost like someone had pulled a gun and people started panicking. I wont lie it totally freaked me out for a minute then we quickly realized that it was a fight. We saw the police break up 2 or 3 different ones that night.



Before we left we got two funnels cakes with extra sugar and plowed through both of them. I was so full that the site of food was not even appetizing, thats when all of a sudden Misty reminded us of the fabulous cupcakes we saw when we came in. They were called Kimmy’s Cupcakes made to look like every day food. We grab three different ones to take home for the next day. No way I could eat one after all the fair food we had.



I really enjoyed the fair it was a great night and I felt like a kid again running around getting excited about the rides. I can’t wait to get back to Texas & for Gabe to get there, we have a double date planned with my friend Kari & her man to go to the Texas State Fair.
