Hickam Sandbar

Last weekend we went to the Sandbar on Hickam Air Force Base with some friends and had a wonderful time. You could walk out in the ocean about 200 feet or so and the water was just above your ankles. It's great for little kids and pups. So many people had their dogs out there with them and they were having a grand old time.

So we decided to go back this weekend and take the pups. We loaded up the truck this morning and made our way down to Hickam. Sadly when we got there we were greeted by a dried up beach. That's right with in a week the tide went down and there were only small puddles of water here and there. It was not as pretty as the weekend before but that didn't at all stop the beach goers and their pups. Bailey and Dingo were eager to get out of the truck as soon as we stop. Checking everything out, running down the beach with the other dogs. Chasing balls and other dog toys through the water and sand. Dingo warmed up to the ocean really quick and was running through the puddles in no time. Bailey on the other hand was a bit more stubborn and scared. I was determined to get her in the water and to make her like it. I mean HECK we are in Hawaii for crying out load she needs to like the ocean as much as me. I guided her in with me, still a bit unsure she finally gave in and came. At first she bounced around like a freaking jack rabbit trying to get out of the water but it didn't work. She stuck close to us, mainly Gabe as we walked around the sandbar. It finally hit her that the water was ok and she wasn't going to die by walking in and started running around more with Dingo when he would go in the water.

I loved watching them play and chasing their toys with the other dogs and run around with them. They were so messy and sandy be time the afternoon was over but they had a ball. We are going to continue to take them more and more so they get more comfortable with the water.

It was a great trip and I had a blast, running around with the pups on the beach. I can't wait to go back and do it all over again.

Don't Eat ME!!!!

Today I had the chance to go swimming with the sharks with a friend and her in-laws. Something I said I wanted to do before I left the island. I was so excited when she invited me along, I couldn't wait.
Up bright and early to head down to North Shore and then I found myself standing there waiting to get on the boat.....getting nervous and scared. "AAAAAHHHHH
People do this all day every day so what is there to be scared about"
I tryed telling myself. Once we were on the boat headed out to sea I was super stoked but in the back of my mind I couldn't help but think "why in the world am I doing this."
We came to a stopping point 3 miles out from the harbor in Haliewa. They dropped the cage in and with in seconds the sharks were swimming around the boat and all over. OMG, I was having second thoughts but then I would be wasting the money I just paid to do this and not only that, Gabe would never let me live it down. (he didn't go)
It came our turn and I slowly crawled down in the cage scared to death because literally the sharks are swimming right by me. Never once did they touch the cage or show any signs of aggression. After a couple minutes I was OK and was totally having a blast. It was the most amazing experience ever. I was in the metal cage with Galapagos Sharks swimming around me. They were as long as 12 feet. They were so close you could see their eyes. Truly a moment I will not for get.
Here are a few pictures from my North Shore Shark Adventure.
