First GSSF Shoot

Today was the hubbies first Glock shooting competition. He's been looking forward to it for the last couple weeks. Yesterday we spent the morning at the range so he could practice on his shooting time. It definitely paid off because he did better today then he though he would. The first two stations you just shot at cardboard targets. You get to shoot 3 full magazines loaded with 11 rounds each, per station. Both stations are timed and your also judged on were you shoot the target. He wasn't going to much for time he as he was for placement on the target but he ended up doing 11 seconds & under on both sets.
I'm such a proud wifey, I love spending any bit of time together that we can.
The 3rd station was plates, not just your average paper plates though. There was 8 metal plates you had to hit. They didn't break they just fell right back. This was a first for the hubbs and he was a bit nervous about it. But he did great he got all of them down on the first try. Here he got 4 loaded magazines 11 rounds each and only used 8 of those 11. Pretty fancy guy if I do say so. :)
He had so much fun and couldn't stop talking about it after wards. The next Glock shoot is in October located in Charleston, he's planning on going. I really hope I'm here so I can go with him. To treat himself of a job well done before we left he picked up 2 new magazines for his Glock. He's like a fat kid in a candy store when it comes to shooting and gun stuff.
We had such a great day, I love getting to see him in his element having such a good time. He's keeps trying to push me over to the dark side to start shooting more but I'm not so sure on that. I guess time will tell and we will see.

Trying New Things

We absolutely LOVE Mexican food, any kind we can get our hands on. Enchiladas are a favorite for us. I'm always looking for a new recipe to try out and change things up a bit. I recently had some free time, seems to be a common thing since cycle started. I found a enchilada recipe that I just had to try and tonight was the night. They turned out FABULOUS, so good we are probably going to have them for left overs tomorrow night. I though they were to good not to share so here you go. :) You'll have to check back in and let me know how you like them if you end up making them.

Easy & Creamy White Chicken Enchiladas
Ingredients
6-8 corn tortillas (enchilada size)
1 pre-cooked plain rotisserie chicken, shredded
1 cup sweet corn
4 cups shredded Mexican blend cheese, divided in half
3 tablespoons butter
3 tablespoons all purpose flour
1-1/4 cups chicken broth
1 – 10oz can cream of chicken soup
1 cup sour cream
1 – 4oz can chopped green chiles
1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
1/4 teaspoon sea salt

Instructions
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
Fill the center of each tortilla with a handful of shredded chicken, a tablespoon or so of the corn, and a pinch of the shredded cheese.
Roll and place in the bottom of a baking dish with the seam side down.
In a pot over medium heat melt the better. Add flour and whisk into a thick paste.
Add chicken broth, cream of chicken, sour cream, chiles, salt and pepper.
Whisk gently for about 5 minutes until warm and smooth.
Pour the sauce over the enchiladas and top with remaining shredded cheese.
Bake for 25 to 30 minutes and serve warm.

Red Phase Classes

I've mentioned before about how I volunteer for our company FB page during each cycle. The companies Family FB page is were the families are able to some what stay in touch with their SIT. We post daily updates, questions to get the parents & spouses involved, advice for them and loads of more helpful information as they transition into a army way of life. Every Friday we post 20 pictures to allow the families in on a small glimpse into what their SIT is doing. Its not so much to show them pictures of their SIT but to show them what they are doing on a day to day routine. Because of my busy work schedule I'm not normally able to go out during the week to take picture, so they've dubbed my days are Saturday & Sunday. (works for me!!!!) Today the company went through a land navigation course training class. Sounds pretty intense right, my hubby always hated land nav. and some how he got stuck co-teaching the class. Lucky duck him, lol. I went this morning and peaked around in the class for a bit and snapped a few shots of the newly deemed privates of Delta company. Some seemed to be catching on to what was being taught quicker than others. Then you had the ones that were completely clueless. I enjoyed watching & hearing my husband work and teach the class. Different scenarios that he was giving to them just cracked me up, but I had to contain myself and not let them see me laughing. I love being able to be apart of my husbands day even if its just for a little bit out taking pictures. I'll take any time we can get together. :) I though I'd share a few of the pictures I took for our families!!

Taking advantage of some FREE time.

Since I got out of work super early today (thank goodness) I decided to go ahead and get the commissary shopping out of the way. I've managed get our shopping down to once a month give or take a trip for veggies or dairy items here and there.  The hubby has started back with a new cycle as you know, so I try to keep healthy quick snack items on stock for him. His days are so busy and long that he doesn't often have time to stop and eat. A week or so ago he bought one of these "grabbers" as we call them at school. He absolutely loved them and hasn't put them down. Its like applesauce in a squeeze pack. He requested I buy them in bulk when I can. So that I did, taking every last one off the shelf at the commissary. I'm sure they though I was crazy. Another must have for him here lately has been Coconut water, apparently it helps keep your hydrated when out in the horrible heat. I haven't tried one myself but I'll take his word for it. Got to take care of the hubbs, he doesn't ask for much so its the least I can do. :)

Also taking advantage of having gotten off work early I went ahead and made a few freezer meals. I'm trying this out for the first time this month. As much as I love cooking sometimes on long days and late nights for the hubbs its easy just to pull something right out of the freeze that's already prepared and I just have to toss it in the crock pot or oven. And its still a homemade meal and not a store bought frozen freezer box. I'll let you know how they turn out here over the next few weeks.

Classroom Revamp

My classroom is officially finished and I'm quite proud of it if I do say so. It look a lot of hard work and  time to get to were it is now. I had a great new partner helping along the way, which made the process a tiny bit easier. On day two of teacher work week when we went to pick up our supplies and everything was out of stock and I was about to have a melt down, she helped keep me calm. Thankfully after a bit of digging and searching from the teacher store staff, everything needed was found. Heart attack diverted. I even made my first set of curtain, actually I made two sets. The ones for my class and then a set for another teacher to. I'm slowly but surly working on my craftiness. :) So with out further ado, I give you my newly revamped classroom.

Tomorrow is drop in, so the new children and their families get to stop by and see the rooms and meet their new teachers. I'm excited and nervous all at the same time. (not for tomorrow but for the school year, which starts Monday.)

Adding to the mix

I've started going to the indoor pool on post 3 times a week and swimming laps. I've never swam laps before this but let me tell you it sure has been a workout. I'm really enjoying it though and think I'll definitely keep it in my weekly workout routine. I've set a goal for myself over the next month, now here's to seeing if I'm able to stick with it. So far so good and its not weight loss either (although I have a personal weight loss goal I am trying to reach), stick around and find out.
I've gone to the pool both in the mornings and the afternoons. I have to say I like going in the mornings better just because there aren't as many people.
Does anyone have any tips they'd like to share with a new lap swimmer like myself??

Artsy Fartsy Board

Its teacher work week at school right now, we start the school year on Monday. I'm excited for this journey ahead and what's to come. We have been getting our classrooms cleaned and ready for the first day of school this week. I haven't done much in the decorating department yet, we've been cleaning and organizing the last two day. Oh and putting up our bulletin board.

For some reason this one gave me more trouble than any of the others in the past. I put the wording up 3 different times and took it down only to put it back up. Some of the letters are still slanted but you know what it's ok because It's done. I'm not changing it or redoing it again. Did you catch on my to our new theme??? We are going with Frogs, they are funky, fantastic froggies and there so darn cute!!!!

Up before the sun!!

Nothing like getting my morning work out in before I head to work for the day! I've been trying more and more to get up early to get it done and out of the way. This way I can come home and relax after work or get things done around the house and not feel like I'm rushed to do a million things.

When do you normally work out,
have you found a time or routine that works best for you????

Here we go again

We picked up a new Cycle today and when I say we I mean the husband along with all the other Delta Drills. It was suppose to be yesterday but for whatever reason they changed it to today. It worked out perfect, with it being Saturday I was able to go and watch. It had been raining off and on all morning which wasn't fabulous but ok, I'm not going to melt. Or am I?? Watching about 220 privates run around the bays in the rain trying not to drop their duffel's always makes for good memories. You really never understand that first day of Basic until you 1- either are there to watch the shark attack or 2- your apart of the shark attack being a private.

This one happened so quickly, the buses literally pulled up and out jumped all the SIT. Thankfully no one dropped their duffel and had their belongings dumped out like the last cycle.
The husband showing the new privates how to do a proper push up. Poor guy having to lay in that nasty rain water, I'm sure he didn't enjoy his blouse being wet after that.
Task #1
"You probably should start working on that a little better private" said Drill SGT M. In the sweetest most kind way, NOT. This guy might be little but let me tell ya he's got some lungs behind him. This was just a complete mess / disaster if you get what I'm saying. I'm sure its partly because most of them are scared shitless right now and aren't thinking straight. They will get there though, it just takes time.
Task #2
Aline your duffel's and boots properly in front of you and stand at attention. This one surprisingly went over ok. They were able to move out of line and help their battles if needed. The hubbs going through checking the first round. Look at that face, poor SIT have no clue what's in store for them.
Getting ready to meet their Drill SGT's and Company Command Team.
The hubbs saying the NCO Creed, he's such a rock star of a Soldier. They also recited the Drill SGT Creed & Solider Creed. I love hearing them say it loud and clear!!! I'm so proud of my husband and all he does, its not easy but he pushes through.
At this point they are broken down in to platoons and getting ready to go into their Bays (barracks). There's a lot to do that first day and its exhausting and LONG. I miss my husband already and its only day one of the new cycle. Let the good time roll and the fun stuff begin.
Welcome to the Army Privates!!!!!!!!

Flowers Anyone ?!?!

After today our home is over loaded on flowers. I don't know that we've ever had this many at one time to take care of. It seemed to be "the" gift for end of summer. Which totally makes me smile, I've never had much of a "green thumb" but since moving here I'm working on that.
So I've got my fingers crossed that I can keep these babies alive for a good long while. I think the Hibiscus is the prettiest don't you. I hear they are kinda touch and go so we will see. My Ivy I got for Easter back in April is doing great, its slowly starting to get bigger. I just have to remember to water them every now and then. Easier said than done, even with them being right in the kitchen were I see them every day.
This set of parents have been absolutely wonderful, they have gone above and beyond what I could have ever imagined. I'll never forget how kind hearted they were to me.
Well tootles yall, I gotta go water my plants :)
