Jane Wayne Day

Our unit put on a Jane Wayne day today and it just so happens to be my 26th birthday. What a fun way to celebrate with some great girls I've had the chance to meet here. We decided to that we were going to make shirts to wear to represent our men!!! They turned out super cute if I do say so. There is five of us in our little group and each shirt had the same concept just a little bit if a different twist. Our shirts were a pretty pink fitted T.
The front said "Scouts Out" which is the unit slogan and the back said "Property of DS (last name)". We also added the US flag and our unit patch on each shoulder. I have to figure out a way to wash mine other than in the washer so it doesn't get ruined.
Jane Wayne Day is were we as wives get to go out and  participate in some of the different training courses and events that the new soldiers coming into the army have to do. Some can be pretty intense and then others not so much.
I was a bit nervous going into today because I've never done anything like this before and I didn't want to make a complete fool of myself. (or my husband for that matter.) Speaking of husband it was just our luck that he company was running the range were we were going to be shooting at so I was the only one with out my spouse there to cheer me on and watch as we went through the different obstacles. Once we got going I was fine with it though, I had a blast and the guys that were there with us were really helpful. That was up until the EST station, which is a virtual shooting simulator. We all filed in and listened to a briefing on how the guns operated. Sounds easy enough right, well WRONG. I kept doing something to make my gun mess up. It was either the way I was holding it or something I'm not really sure and I was getting really frustrated so I just decided after a couple rounds I was done. The other ladies had their hubbs there helping and a few were trying to help me as well but it just was so confusing.
From there we headed out to the range were the HUBBY WAS!!!! We were going to be shooting M16's how crazy is that. I was once again nervous because even though we go to the range and go shooting together on Saturdays, its still something that I'm not 100% comfortable with. When we got there we had a briefing on what we were going to be doing and then they sent us on our way. It was really neat to be out there doing what my husband does on a daily basis. I mean really through out the whole day we were going through the life of a new private in the army.
After we were done shooing we were able to go out and check out targets. The hubbs was really proud of my shooting ability I hit the target on over half my shots. Pretty impressive right!!!!
After a few photo opts we said our good byes and were on our way out.
We though we were done, we headed back towards the battalion area and continued to drive right past it. Really we though there's more!!!! We showed up at another obstacle course were we were told a story which left you hanging. A cliffhanger as they called it and we had to figure out how to get through it. And in this case it was how to get over a 8 foot wall with out touching certain areas. It was much harder than we though. I was a bit freaked out for a moment because the five of us were so high up on a 8 foot long by 1 foot wide wall. If just one person made a wrong move or moved over the wrong way to much you could fall right off. We had 25 minutes to complete the task and I think we completed it in about 20 minutes. It was such a relief to get down let me tell you!!!.
They split us up into two groups and once we were down with everything we met back up. Here we were each presented with a certificate of completion and congratulated on a job well done.
I ended up having a really great time and I'm glad I was able to participate. We've done a few things like this in Hawaii and I never ended up doing them, so now was my chance. There is already talk about the next JWD and what we are going to be doing. I have to say if you ever get a chance to take part in one, you totally should. My hubbs was so proud of me and I think that was the best part of the whole day. I had a blast and can't wait to do it again!!! Great start to my Birthday!!!!!!!

This is AWESOME!! I'm so glad you got to participate in a JWD. I was really proud of myself when I did the one in Hawaii...never thought I could do something like that, let alone do it well. So I know you are super proud of yourself! It's quite an accomplishment, especially doing it while looking fab in the process :)
